Sandy's Basketball

We're now at 30 weeks, and it definitely looks like I swallowed a basketball. One advantage is that I no longer have to worry about cleaning lint from my belly button as it is completely inside out! :-)

Three Pounds at 29 Weeks

We had another ultrasound on Friday at 29 weeks. The boys are almost identical in size, 3 pounds each! Currently they are positioned with one boy head down and all stretched out on my left side. The other is currently breech although folded at the waist with his head and feet under my stomach and his bottom down by the other's head. I'm having a lot of fun feeling them move. Often I will feel a little protrusion, likely a shoulder or knee, and when I rub it the baby will respond back. Dave gets tickled when the babies respond back to him.

When we had our doctor's visit two weeks ago I measured at full term for a single baby. (No wonder I feel so huge!) We do get a lot of surprised looks when people ask when I'm due and I say December. But then they understand when I explain we are having twins. I do have this fear that I may wake up one morning with a pumpkin face on my stomach as Dave keeps threatening to paint one. It does look like I swallowed a basketball.

Resting Time

Sandy's doctor placed her on bedrest for the remainder of her pregnancy. This is not uncommon for higher risk mothers, but occured earlier than we expected. All this rest and some medication has brought the premature contractions under control, but unfortunately resulted in Sandy's new addiction to Sudoku puzzles. I wonder if the program to break that addiction has 9-steps?

Get Your Kicks

Last night the boys were very active. For the first time I felt each of them kick me. Sandy and I were very excited. With each new development, the whole experience becomes more real. It's so fun!

The Boys are Growing

This photo was taken August 30th at almost exactly 22 weeks. I literally see myself getting larger daily. I now have a shelf to rest my hands on when I sit down as my mid-section juts out farther and farther. And when I'm out in public it seems that everyone stares at my tummy. The babies are moving daily, however we still cannot feel movement from the outside so Dave doesn't get to share in that yet. I'm told we should start feeling them soon.

TWO BOYS! Oh my gosh!!!

We had our 20 week ultrasound on August 17. During a very lenghty ultrasound Dr. Ottman and the nurse checked out all of the babies' parts, counting fingers and toes, measuring their heads, checking the chambers of their hearts and all vital organs. Everything looks good and both babies appear very healthy. All of their parts are there -- especially lots of boy parts! We are now having to rethink names as Samantha no longer works. For now Dave is calling them Davey and 'the baby formerly known as Sam'. The babies each weigh about 13 oz and are about 7 inches long. And Mom is growing bigger by the day!

This baby is obviously very proud of his parts and wanted to make sure we knew he is a boy!


You can see the thin membrane between the amniotic sacs in the middle of the image. The baby on the right is facing the right, and the other baby is curled with his feet at the top. During the ultrasound we could see the left baby kicking toward the other's head!
