Truth be told, I was pretty unfamiliar with children’s bedtime stories, even the classic ones. So in order to vote on last month’s poll I needed to review the material. With babies in place, we systematically worked our way through the list reading the stories. Like the poll voters, I most liked the story of “The Ugly Duckling" who was ostracized by his fellow ducklings because of his unconventional appearance. To his delight (and to the surprise of others), he matures into a graceful swan, the most beautiful bird of all. The story was written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen and first published November 11, 1843.
