Subtle Messages

On the surface of the carpet Benji’s message here seems rather straight forward, but I think there’s more to learn here. From the age of two, the twins have loved trains. It was one of their first spoken words. Then about a year ago, Benji asked me if I had a lot of trains when I was a little boy and loved them as much as he and Davey do. I confessed that, while I liked trains as a boy, I was crazier about cars. From that point forward, Benji began a strong interest in old cars. At first I thought he was just mirroring me to garner my approval, which is probably true, but I also believe this is beginning of Benji developing his own identity apart from Davey. He has learned much about cars in the last year, which usually leaves Davey with all the trains to play with alone. This makes them both very happy.
