Ducktails are still cool
One thing that tickles Grandmother Ondra is Benji’s ducktail. Even after his first hair fell out and he was almost entirely bald, he still had his little natural ducktail. It brings a smile to her face because it reminds her so much of the one Daddy Dave had as a baby. For children of the 1950’s like Grandma and Grandpa Edds, ducktail haircuts were an important and popular fashion statement. Also known as D.A.’s, short for Duck’s Ass, the ducktail hair style quickly became a stereotypical feature of rebels and nonconformists, and gained popularity especially after the rise of rock 'n roll legend Elvis Presley, who sported the same look. Remember, Mama wouldn’t let Daddy name this child Elvis, but that’s another story.
